Monthly Rifle Competition. March 2nd 2025

A nice warm spring day called for a fresh approach to this year’s monthly Rifle competitions. Most people who are new to our sport are often a bit reluctant to enter a competition. They are quite comfortable spending an hour or two plinking away at a competition target(which is our default target) but they are a bit reluctant to see their score in public and measure it against other shooters. We were all in the same position and I remember being thrown in the deep end by our school swimming coach who had noticed that I was happily swimming away at the shallow end and keeping out of his way. It worked, Once I discovered that I could swim at both ends , I even dived off the 3 metre diving board. So we decided to apply the same approach to competitions last Sunday. All who arrived for their usual plinking sessions were told that it was mandatory to enter the competition. We also told them that it was cheaper to shoot the competition than it was to buy the targets which they usually did. Once started, they all seemed to enjoy it and some shot very well. We usually shoot this competition in the NASRPC Field Sporter, prone rested format but we allowed it to be shot from a bench on this occasion.  The NASRPC 100 metre targets were used, unlimited sighters on the top bull and 20 shots each on the two targets below. Maxx possible score 400. The results are in the table below.
