East Coast Shooter Wins Runner Up in Classic Competition in An Riocht NASRPC Shoot 22 April 2018

Last weekend the NASRPC were hosted in the  “Kingdom An Riocht Shooting Club”, near Tralee in County Kerry. This is the monthly National Level  shoot and is spread across a wide range of centre-fire and small-bore disciplines.  Anthony F. and I traveled down and represented East Coast Shooting Club.

The weather conditions were initially fine and dry the wind gradually increased and rain showers started to drift in from the Wild Atlantic Way!! Unusually An Riocht offered a chance for competitors to fire in the Classic Category which is for rifles older than 1955 unmodified using ‘iron-sights’ at a fixed range of 300 yards/20rounds; Having fired military calibres all my life I fancied a go at this and ‘booked’ a Lee Enfield Mark III to use while Anthony was given a famous Swiss made Schmidt-Rubin K31 model. The wind, range (and recoil!) made this a very acute marksmanship challenge, especially for Anthony and many other who had never fired such a rifle before. About forty entrants took part and it wasn’t until we had left the range and finished competing on Range One in a Gallery Rifle Small Bore 1500 Competition that Anthony was surrounded by the An Riocht organisers and ‘classic’ competitors and duly presented with his runners-up medal, having shot a 139/180, with first place shooting a 142!! Well done Anthony!

The attached photo shows the happy shooter himself with his well deserved medal which I am sure that he will show off on our range in due course! A great result for East Coast Shooting Club, I trust you will all agree.
