Monthly Rifle Competition. April 6th 2025.

Today was a wonderful day to be out in the open in County Wicklow. The sun shone all day and there was little or no breeze. Just like the warmth brings out all the flowers, it also brought out many of our club members who have been sequestered at home, hiding from the cold and damp. A very good crowd arrived for the weekly 50 bird clay shoot and a similar number of people arrived for the monthly Rifle competition. As with last month, people could choose how they wanted to shoot, prone with sling, prone rested(FSPR), or bench rested. The results are shown in the following table along with the class they competed in. I took the opportunity to take photographs of the activities today which you can see below.

The second photo in the group show a very rare and interesting rifle which was used by one competitor in today’s competition.. It  can work as a semi auto or as a bolt action rifle. It is a very high quality rifle made by Beretta. The Olympia model.  Medium heavy barrel and very good wood quality in the stock. It is interesting to contrast this rifle with the other rifles shown in another photo below. The era of polished blue steel actions and barrels, and high quality walnut stocks  is gone. Now it is only performance that counts, hence metal stocks, light triggers, heavy barrels and even heavier scopes!
