The People Who Keep The Club Running.
The People Who Keep The Club Running.
Clubs like ours depend on members volunteering to do work to keep the club operating. Some of these members offer themselves up for offices on the committee. Other members step up to the mark and attend work sessions on the range to keep it functioning. These work days are a mixture of building maintenance and gardening. Like most organisations, the 90/10 principle seems to apply in our club. 10% of the members do the work and some of the 90% who do not, sometimes complain about some imperfections as regards our facilities or operations. This post is to remind all members of the responsibilities that go with the privilege of being a member,
- You are a member of the club hence you are the club.
- You share responsibility in running the club.
- This means that you can not expect others to do what you think needs to be done.
- You either do it yourself or bring it to the attention of someone who might do it, remembering rule 3.
- Committee members, who are listed below, administer the operations of each of the shooting disciplines. This does not mean that you can expect them to do everything that may occur to you , to be necessary, to make your shooting experience more pleasant. If you think some changes are necessary in how we operate, Speak up, but be prepared to help,
- Our coaching and training is carried out by members for members. Do not be afraid to ask another member, whose skills you respect, to offer you some time.
The first person to be recognised is Billy F., our Professional Planning Engineer. Billy has been a member for over 20 years and without his help in the Planning process, and the Sound Measurement process , we would not be on our current range. Without him, we could not have progressed our continuous development of the Range buildings and the other buildings we need to operate our range since 2004.
Getting back to the title of this post, You should also be aware of other members whose work keeps the range operating. First amongst these is Peter P, our Environmental Officer. Why do you think that our range always appears neat and tidy? That is because Peter P. is on the range at regular intervals during each week. Emptying the bins into the waste containers and then emptying these containers into his car to be taken to the official waste disposal sites in the county. We have had some inspections by WCC Environmental Officers and they have remarked that our range maintenance is excellent. Incidentally, Peter is a qualified Para medic who has set up and maintains our First aid, equipment, including maintaining our Defib station.
Next to be recognised is Malcolm P who is our main planning person for how we improve the building structures on the range. He built our first Pistol Range himself and has helped with the planning and layout of all buildings since then. Malcom has also assisted in the procurement of merchandise like clothing and badges which give identity to our club. If any of you would like to purchase an ECSC badge then please talk to Konrad on the range.
Following these gentlemen are the members of the Committee, who are elected by the attendees at the club’s AGM. In alphabetical order are:
