Shotgun Section visit to the Carrick Glen Shooting Club.
We received an invitation from the Carrick Glen club , to visit them for a friendly competition on their range which is only 3km from our range in Diamond Hill. They specialize in Clay Pigeon shooting and have an excellent layout including DTL, Skeet and Sporting clays. We were made feel very welcome on arrival to their clubhouse where a nice cup of tea and a warm fire awaited. Teams of 6 were put together, 3 from each club, so of we went to face the challenge. The range is on a hill top offering magnificent views down the coast to Wicklow town. the stands were varied and different from some that we were used to but exciting to shoot. We also had a go at the High Tower which simulates driven Pheasant with the birds flying fast, directly over head at about 40 Meters, fast and furious! At the end of the competition, two prizes were awarded, one to the highest scoring shooter from each club. Darren, proudly smiling in the photo below won from our club and another young fellow, Sam from CarrickGlen, won their prize. A triumph of youthfull skill and exuberance over experience on both sides. A great day which we hope to repeat when they visit our range later in the Spring.
